Aim: Encourage all students not only outstanding students but also get average and failed student change their mind to pay attention to try study by hard to competition for outstanding composition in the next public school year 2015-2016. Facilitators: Mr. Sourn Butmao Executive Director, Mr. Noun Sovanrith Deputy Director, Mr. Torth Kimsroy Provincial Project Officer, three Khmer Teachers, and one Vietnamese teachers.
Stakeholders (as honorable): Mr. Huon Vorn Kandal village chief and school committee and Mr. In Den representative police administrative post, Ms. Chheng Kim E Chief of Education Office, and Ms. Phoung Chhouy Eng chief of Sangkat Phsar Chhnang. Participants: All students include 25 outstanding students. On 27thJuly 2015, Minority Rights Organization (MIRO) organized merit award ceremony for hand out special merit award and certificate for 25 outstanding students at Samaki primary school. At the beginning of the ceremony Miss Keo Vanna the principle of primary Samaki School reported about the results in the academic year 2014- 2015.
In the academic year 2014- 2015 ViDan Foundation, Inc. supported 95 children in Kandal and Chong Koh villages. There are, inter-ethnic children by non-racing discrimination registered with school, Khmer Cham and Vietnamese students. The school follows by a Cambodian curriculum in the morning, with Khmer taught in the morning. In the afternoons the students are taught Vietnamese.
In the academic year of 2014-2015 the school had 25 outstanding students whom received meritawards in both Khmer class and Vietnamese class. 9 Khmer students, 16 Vietnamese students, and no Cham. After that we offered a chance for Miss. Kim Cheng E a representative of the Department of Education office to express her views. She said ‘I am very happy to be here and seeing you. I really appreciated you struggling to study hard in the academic year 2014- 2015, it was very great achievement.’ She added and recommend to the other students that didn’t receive a merit award and certificate not to be upset. She reiterated the schools ethos that if you study hard in the new academic year of 2015-16 you will receive a merit award and a certificate too. Ms. Phoung Chhouy Eng the commune chief also extended her thanks to ViDan and MIRO for supporting the children in her area as well assisting the governments fight to reduce poverty.It was a great achievement in her community and she hoped to see ViDan and MIRO helps her community in the long term future. She also revealed her desire to have more students accessing the great facilities and opportunities on offer at the school. She congratulated the 25 outstanding students that received a merit award and certificate in the academic year 2014- 2015. She encouraged all students to listen to parents and teachers, and continue to work hard. Continuing on from Ms. Chhouy Eng, Mr. Sourn Butmao also congratulated the 25 outstanding students whom received awards, adding how proud how he was of each and every one of them all. He added that for the new academic year of 2015-16,ViDan will no longer provide 1,500 Riels for one student in per school day. ViDan will however still support you in purchasing uniforms, text books, and school materials. He also revealed plans of a suggestion to the Department of Education Office to find a new teacher for Samaki primary school due to the schools increased numbers. For the new academic year of 2015-2016 there will be no merit on offer; however outstanding students will be taken on a city tour of Phnom Penh. Mr Sourn Butmao urged the children to study hard, and that any student who gets from number 1 to number 5 will have the opportunity for a city tour.
